Russell Geoffrey Bassett, 44, appeared in the Victorian County Court facing charges of theft, drug trafficking and inciting a person to kidnap.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Seven drums - about 175kg - of pseudoephedrine, which can be used to make amphetamines, were stolen during a delivery to a pharmaceutical processor in the Melbourne suburb of Croydon in August 2001.
Prosecutor Peter McDermott told the court the former officer was working as a chemical courier at the time of the incident.

Sounds a smidge worse than Warney's indiscretion with diet pills and he copped two years. I wonder how much this former fuzz will get. Can you keep us posted?
