Questions For Candidates For the 2004 ACT Election

The Australian Christian Lobby has developed the following questionnaire. We do not mean to be presumptuous in asking you to complete it, but our supporters are keen to place their vote for candidates who will represent Christian values once in office. Please post, fax or email finished questionnaires to the address below by Wednesday 15 September 2004

Family
While many people including Christians are through misfortune themselves single parents, we believe that a family of a father and a mother is the ideal for which we should aim in bringing up children.
1. Would you support legislation that provides incentives for people to enter into and remain in marriage?
Yes No Comments:

Gambling
Gambling was legalised in order to regulate it. However this regulation is inadequate when studies show up to 42% of the gambling industry's income is from problem gamblers.
2. Would you support the current cap on poker machines in the ACT and support reductions in their number throughout the Territory?
Yes No Comments:

Social Justice - The Needy
Close to 9% of ACT residents are in poverty, others experience mental illness, homelessness and needy circumstances.
3. Is it mainly the Government's responsibility to provide for the disadvantaged over that of the individual?
Yes No Comments:

Drug Policy
A harm minimisation approach provides the message that it is best to manage this problem by government acceptance of a drug using community rather than continue the 'illegal' status of drugs.
4. Would you support a 'drug free' rather than a 'harm minimisation' approach to tackle drug addiction in the ACT?
Yes No Comments:

Sex Industry
For those interested in upholding traditional values in our society, it is of some concern that the ACT is the national centre for much of the sex industry.
5. Would you support restricting the sex industry to its current extent and support its reduction if the opportunity arose?
Yes No Comments:

The Unborn
Late term abortions are those carried out after 20 weeks gestation, with some we have the situation of a foetus which would have been viable, had it been delivered naturally.
6. Would you seek to repeal late term abortion?
Yes No Comments:

Voluntary Euthanasia
The advocates of voluntary euthanasia are working to have it adopted in legislation throughout Australia.
7. Would you oppose legislation legalising euthanasia?
Yes No Comments:

Values Education
There has been considerable debate about the need for values training in schools.
8. There has been considerable debate about the need for values training in schools. If (re) elected, would you support greater emphasis on teaching character and virtues in schools?
Yes No Comments:

Bill of Rights
The ACT established a Bill of Rights in March 2004, but many think we should be developing a culture more of responsibilities than rights.
9. Would you support moves to repeal the Bill of Rights?
Yes No Comments:

Personal Faith Position
For some, the issue of personal faith will be primary, others will be as concerned with the position of candidates on particular issues.
10. Are you a regular Churchgoer?

Visiting with friends for the weekend. Broadband is grand. Managed to download all I need for new site update and fit it onto a flash card for transport home. Should be on same @home within the week.
Found an amazingly grand tripd of this sort: we've estimated a price of at least $AUD2,000 for a bargain of $23 at an op shop (the 23 includes, but of course, two orange containers made of glass)

Have visited too many blogs that have but one posting this weekend. Ick, egad and all that.
The various coloured lines in the lines above in this post are as memory for Suki's tutorial. The purple line below is for the chair restoration.

ATTENTION;

I am Dr.Hassan Abu,Project Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). My Committee is principally concerned with payment of all contract awarded from 1998 to date, in order of priority as regard capital projects of the NNPC. The information we gathered from the Foreign Office of the Nigeria Chambers of Commerce and Industries is so positive as to convince us that you would provide us with solution to a money transfer deal valued at Thirty One Million United States Dollars and subsequently a joint business venture. In the course of our duties as values, and project inspectors for the on-going liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) project, we have over-invoiced the value of some jobs done by foreign contractors for the NNPC to the tune of US$31M. As follows: - Computer optimization and Installation $16,000.000.00 Installation of 250,000.00 Monax Turbine $10,000.000.00 Turn Around Maintenance $5,000,000.00 Our aim of over-invoicing this payment is to divert the excess amount to a discrete account abroad. This fund is now floating in suspense account at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This is the fund my colleagues and I have decided to transfer into your account since we, as civil servants are not allowed to operate or own foreign account. The money will be shared as follows after transfer:30% for you (Account Owner) 60% for me and my colleagues10% to off-set both local and international expenses thatWould be incurred in the course of this transaction. To be able to claim the funds, we will be purporting your company to be the original contractor / beneficiary of the funds so all procedures for international transfer shall be strictly followed,as we have worked out all modalities for a swift and riskfree transfer. If this proposal satisfies you, please contact me Through this email address with the following important information. Your Bank Name / Address Account Name ,Account NumberTel/Fax Telex of Bank, with your Personal Phone / Fax Numbers for easy communication.

This transaction will last for 14 working days from the time we submit the required information, as all modalities concerning this transaction have been worked out and it is completely risk free. Please be informed that this subject is classified sensitive. Therefore treat the transaction with utmost confidentiality and urgency.

Yours Faithfully.

Computer Stupidities: Backups: 'We have a customer with tons of data produced every day. They insisted on backing up the stuff themselves, though they had a maintenance contract with our company. They called us because they couldn't restore the data from tape for some reason. It turned out that although they did put a tape in every night, remove it every morning, label it, and store it, what they forgot to do was run the backup script. They had a year's supply of backup tapes, neatly dated, and all of them empty.'
