Questions For Candidates For the 2004 ACT Election
The Australian Christian Lobby has developed the following questionnaire. We do not mean to be presumptuous in asking you to complete it, but our supporters are keen to place their vote for candidates who will represent Christian values once in office. Please post, fax or email finished questionnaires to the address below by Wednesday 15 September 2004
Family
While many people including Christians are through misfortune themselves single parents, we believe that a family of a father and a mother is the ideal for which we should aim in bringing up children.
1. Would you support legislation that provides incentives for people to enter into and remain in marriage?

Gambling was legalised in order to regulate it. However this regulation is inadequate when studies show up to 42% of the gambling industry's income is from problem gamblers.
2. Would you support the current cap on poker machines in the ACT and support reductions in their number throughout the Territory?

Close to 9% of ACT residents are in poverty, others experience mental illness, homelessness and needy circumstances.
3. Is it mainly the Government's responsibility to provide for the disadvantaged over that of the individual?

A harm minimisation approach provides the message that it is best to manage this problem by government acceptance of a drug using community rather than continue the 'illegal' status of drugs.
4. Would you support a 'drug free' rather than a 'harm minimisation' approach to tackle drug addiction in the ACT?

For those interested in upholding traditional values in our society, it is of some concern that the ACT is the national centre for much of the sex industry.
5. Would you support restricting the sex industry to its current extent and support its reduction if the opportunity arose?

Late term abortions are those carried out after 20 weeks gestation, with some we have the situation of a foetus which would have been viable, had it been delivered naturally.
